 Exercise and Trauma Study

Brief Description: In this study, we are recruiting 50 female adults with PTSD symptoms to examine the effect of exercise on cognitive and affective neural mechanisms. Participants will be guided through a single bout of moderate-to-vigorous intensity exercise (or sitting silently) for 20 minutes by a research assistant. Prior to- and following the exercise (or sitting) session, participants will complete a letter flanker task and emotion regulation picture viewing task while their electrical brain activity is continuously measured via electroencephalogram. Results from this study may lead to greater understanding of the neural mechanisms by which exercise may help facilitate improved treatment outcomes in individuals with PTSD and will inform future research on the integration of exercise into common psychological treatments for PTSD.
